Food Router

"You pray for the hungry. Then you feed them. This is how prayer works. – Pope Francis"

I attended ICHack and in a team of 5 was able to build a system that would match supermarkets with near-expiry food to the nearest foodbanks. We solved this constrained optimisation problem that minimised the amount of travel time relative to the demand and supply available. The gif on the left displays a simulation of the system running in London. We use real life data of the locations, supermarket oversupply and foodbank demand to display the impact that this service could have to helping alleviate the levels of food insecurity in the UK where too many rely on charity for sustenance.
